Arthur had been watching the small yacht, piloted by a few humans, for a while. It bobbed gently on the cerulean waves, the salty ocean a vast expanse around it. The sky was blue, embellished with a few fluffy clouds, but there was a brisk and salty breeze skimming across the ocean and towards the golden stretch of coast-line.
There was one human in particular that Arthur had his eyes fixated on, the female letting her bare feet trail in the water as she read a book. Most of his own kind were suprised that he knew what such things were, but he'd had to subdue his usually unsatiable curiousity and learning about things on the surface was the perfect thing to occupy him. As he watched the boat, the emerald-eyed merman perched atop an outcrop of rocks. It was secluded and undisturbed, humans deeming it too dangerous to visit because of how close it was to the currents and the towering cliffs that overshadowed the ocean. Indeed, this place was notorious for it's storms which hurled humans into those cliffs; though Arthur quite liked the thrashing water and it's alluring blackness beneath the tumultuous slate-grey clouds. However, at the moment it was considerably warm, pleasant and the sea was calm. There was the inevitable screech of sea-birds over-head, but the curious merman could also detect some crackling sort of music. It echoed and rippled around the practically deserted expanse, laughter occasionally drifting along and resonating with it. Diving off his rocks and submerging himself with incongruous ease and even a form of practised elegance, Arthur began to approach the yacht. He wanted, no, needed to get closer.
Circling the boat from beneath the waves, Arthur both listened and regarded the blurry shapes above him carefully. There was a male, from what he could determine, and that female with the book- They seemed to be the only ones there. At the moment they were speaking, something about the weather being nice and the conditions good. He felt a small smile cross his face, after all he wasn't used to hearing such mundane conversations, and some of the things they said were quite entertaining. The girl was saying something about...what was it? Television? and then the older male disappeared back into the confines of the yachts interior again. Majestic golden head breaking the surface of the water, eyes shining with curiousity, Arthur peered over the rail of the boat; a slender, webbed hand clung to the cold metal. He knew it could potentially be a dangerous move, but there was another sound. He believed it to be humming, and it emmitted from the female. He ducked down as she glanced over her shoulder, drifting under the boat and around to her side. He was almost inches from her feet, the peculiar things, and it made his heart palpatate to be so achingly close. He really wanted to speak to her, but then again he didn't know whether she wished to in return. The foot twitched slightly, and Arthur darted out of the way. Cautious ____ eyes glanced down into the cerulean depths. "Strange..." He heared a soft voice whisper "...I could have swore..."
A hand was trailing in the water now, almost looking as if it were reaching out for something. The merman stretched out his own, lamenting and longing to himself, before resisting the urge to touch and to query and swimming away. He didn't know what drove him to do such things, but somehow he adored the thrill of it.
He wanted to know more, and it stung to have to leave.
Above the ocean, ______ was now basking in the sunlight as she lay back on her older brother's yacht. Her eyes were closed against the blindingly bright, radient sunlight and she found herself dropping off as the reassuring warmth bore down on her heated skin. In her restless dreams she saw startlingly vivid emerald eyes, a seamless tail coloured with awe-inducing shades of shimmering azure, verdigris and turquoise; this tapered down into delicate, veined fins and on the other end a slender torso of toned alabaster skin. Hair as gold as sunlight, aureate and like a halo around the handsome face drifted artfully in the murky water- The figure was only a magical, alluring, beautiful vision but he seemed too real to even comprehend. The sighting was also fleeting in the young woman's mind, the tail propelling the person away within a matter of moments. There was a vauge sound too, bubbling laughter like the sound of a trickling brooke or a waterfall cascading over rocks.
As she opened her eyes, sitting up and rubbing them, _____ wondered what on Earth was going on in her mind today. It had to have been too much sun, and surely she couldn't really have saw that face in the water earlier? She hated having to leave the dream behind, longed to see the enigmatic figure again. No, it was simply a trick of the light. There wasn't anything.
If there was, she wanted to know more.
More than she could ever seek to comprehend or imagine.

Merman!Romano x Reader
~Le Flashback~
You were eight years old when you were collecting shells on a beach. You and your parents were on vacation and had rented a cabin by the beach. Your dad was fishing while your mom was setting up beach towels and umbrellas.
“Don’t go too far (y/n)! Be careful!” your mother called for you. You nodded and trotted along the soft sand in search of more shells.
The few shells you found were small, some broken and chipped. You frowned as you saw a gathering of flat rocks and boulders near an outpoint of the ocean. You trotted over and carefully leaned over the edge of the rocks. The ocean’s water was clear e

A Dip in the Pool ~ MerAmerica X Reader ~ Part 1
"Hey _____! Do you think you could spare some time for a party at Alfred's house!" Gilbert asked you as he blocked your path. You sighed, the tall Prussia was bothering you again. Gilbert grinned at you waiting for your answer.
"No. I have training." You said bluntly. Even though the Olympics had finished and you had a gold medal for swimming. You couldn't skip out on training. Next time everyone will of trained more. You now had a title to keep, and so going to a party of so

"Oh for the love of God...." (Y/n) groaned and shoved her face in her pillow. She had been laying in bed all day, having caught an aweful cold. She would get into coughing fits easily, had to blow her nose every five minutes, and, every now and then, felt extremely nauseous. This sucked, she had plans with her friend too! England, though she prefered to call by his human name, Arthur. She would have to call him and cancel, much to her disappointment.
So, she popped a cough-drop in her mouth so she wouldn't get into a coughing fit while she spoke, and grabbed her phone. She sniffled and bit as she heard a soft click from the other end,

Just a short one-shot, though I'm tempted to write a little more to flesh this out a bit. I don't think it makes sense, but I thought I ought to share it since I haven't really posted anything.
Anyway, enjoy a piece inspired by my longing for being near the sea (on holiday) <3

P.S I love the song Almost Lover, and I thought the title would be appropriate to use :3
