Literature Text

Later that afternoon, Arthur showed his lover one of the book-shops where he was holding a book signing; elaborating on his talk with Gilbert and chattering enthusiastically about it and the prospects it brought. _____ herself kept thinking back to the sweet, intimate moment when he'd said that she was his inspiration for his new novel- It was unbelievable, and so utterly romantic that she felt herself swoon.
She found herself doing so again, with a prominent scarlet blush on her countenance, when they returned to the pent-house and Arthur went to get a shower.
He had taken only around fifteen minutes, emerging however from the shower with heated skin and crystalline droplets cascading off of his exposed torso as if he'd been in a sauna. A fluffy white towel was wrapped around his slender waist, and only that, his hair damp and sticking up in various different directions as he ran his fingers through it. In the light of the sun-set he seemed unhuman, emerald eyes glinting and vibrant and his un-tamed mane a halo of gold. The unknowing gentleman cocked his head to the side, misinterpreting the flushed face of his girl-friend.
"_____? Are you alright?" He murmured, a damp arm circling around her and a hand being pressed to her fore-head "You seem rather hot, maybe you've caught something?"
"N-No, I'm fine."  He didn't look convinced.
"Are you sure?" More shimmering droplets wound their way down the sinews of his back and his skin, his pale skin sleek and bright against the deep burgundy bed-sheets. "I'm certain." _____ tried to convince him that she was fine "I was just remarking to myself how handsome you are~"
A light-bulb seemed to go on in Arthur's mind "Oh~" He laughed softly, voice low and slightly melodic "Well you're not too bad yourself poppet~"

After un-packing some more of their belongings and changing into clothes more appropriate for the weather, ______ and Arthur headed back out into the darkening streets. They sought to go to a resteraunt for dinner, seeing it as a date and the product of not having anything edible in the fridge. It seemed a trip to the shops was also necessary the day after.
Arthur wore a pair of chocolate brown trousers, a loose white shirt and an emerald bow-tie; acidic green cuff-links sparkling at his wrists and complimenting his eyes. The girl beside him wore a simple, lace-trimmed dress and a few pieces of jewelery that she'd acquired through birthdays and christmas. "You look beautiful..." Arthur had mused softly as they kissed sweetly in the door-way of their apartment, settling any doubts _____ had about her apperance. Either way, she still insisted that Arthur was by far the more radient one of the two.
Eventually reaching their destination, a friendly-looking place with families seated at most of the tables and kindly staff, the Englishman led his lover inside. Guiding her by the small of her back, the guesture not overly obvious but still intimate, he then pulled out her chair for her and settled into his after ordering some drinks and handing ______ a menu.
"What would you like, love?" He said, his own eyes greedily taking in the fish and chips and various other British delicacies. He'd only been in America for a day, but he still had his creature comforts (and it was also the night when he'd normally buy such things from the chip-shop down the road). "Erm...what are you having?"
"Fisherman's Feast~" Arthur guestured towards the picture on the menu, smiling fondly.
"I'll just have normal fish and chips then."
"Ok...I assume we wait for someone to come and take our orders..."
A waiter soon enough came over, pottering away with the food they wanted scrawled on a note-pad; it was a rather plastic-looking blonde, and she regarded Arthur with a gaze that both he and his lover found inappropriate. The gentleman shifted uncomfortably in his seat as she sashayed away, muttering under his breath that she was the very embodiment of everything he hated about the United States of America and leaving it at that.

When the food came, Arthur and _____ began to eat as much as they could. They'd had a sparse breakfast and barely any lunch at all, so relished the taste of cod and the tang of the vinegar. At first the Englishman gazed at the golden, battered fish with distrust (something was muttered about fat and grease and McDonalds) but when he tasted some he then dove in with gratification. Gulping down another mouthful, he guestured around the room "This is quite a nice place, isn't it?" He said to the girl across from him, and she nodded.
"I'm sure there are all sorts of places to eat around here too...I saw an Italian on the way here as well."
"One thing's for sure-" Arthur laughed, the sound resonating around the room along with the sound of up-beat pop music "I'm not going anywhere near any burgers if I can~"
"I take it you haven't had much luck with the local cuisine in the past?"
"More or less Alfred's fault. He mutters a whole load of nonsense about the food, the music, how British accents are meant to be like aphrodisiacs to all the people around here- Gosh, he's the most patriotic person I've ever met!"
Both chuckled, eating some more and then carrying on the conversation. "He's doing good with the modelling business though, isn't he? I saw him on the front cover of a magazine when we first got here."
"Indeed. Whenever we're together he has women swooning over him...He likes it, but he's truthfully a bit of an idiot when it comes to matters of the heart."
"He is very genuine and nice, or at least that's the impression I got of him when we met at Francis's party."
"Yes...heart's in the right place, I guess you could say." Arthur fished through a pocket and pressed a button on his mobile phone "He also sent me a message, saying to meet him at some fancy place near our apartment. He thinks we should all have a picnic or something and go see the sights."
"It's a good idea! He knows this area pretty well, doesn't he?"
The young man gave an affirmative nod "However, before we can go out and meet up with him we've got things to deal with."
"That meeting? You shouldn't worry about it, Gilbert and all of his workers are bound to like you and your work."
He cast his eyes to his empty plate, shaking his head "I-I don't know. It is rather daunting, when I contemplate it."
"Whatever happens, I'll be here for you."
"..Thank you, I really appreciate it."
The two held hands across the table, fingers linked as they exchanged adoring glances. The waitress from before looked on with jealousy from a corner. Once again, the two were simply savouring their time together; one of the things Arthur loved most.

After another drink and some desert, Arthur and ______ began to walk home. The lithe Englishman looked up at the night sky, feeling the rush of the breeze on his face. Maybe everything wasn't as bad as he thought it would be? He thought to himself, reluctant to disturb the still of the silence as cars flashed by. As music began to drift through an open shop door, Arthur even began to hum to it; somehow identifying with the words more than anything as he swept _____ into his arms for a kiss.

"So come on get higher, loosen my lips
Faith and desire in the swing of your hips
Just pull me down hard and drown me, drown me in love
So come on get higher come on, get higher
'Cause everything works, love
Everything works in your arms..."
Another chapter! The song at the end is one that I've had stuck in my head for a while (Come on Get Higher- Matt Nathanson)
Hope you enjoyed this~
